UN Social Policy Specialist in Sokoto Loses Two Children in Tragic Fire Incident

Isah Ibrahim Maru, a social policy specialist associated with the United Nations (UN) in Sokoto State, is grappling with the heartbreaking loss of two of his children in a devastating fire incident.

The sorrowful news was confirmed by Maru when members of the correspondents' chapel of Zamfara Council, NUJ, extended their condolences during a visit to Maru.

Narrating the tragic incident, Maru shared, “I woke up around 5:00 am on Wednesday (Dec. 13) only to discover over 20 missed calls from my family members. Up till this time, nobody can tell the real cause of the fire accident. I was told by my two wives that they were woken up by an unbearable heat caused by flames."

Detailing the unfortunate circumstances, Maru explained that there was no electricity in the area at the time of the incident, and everyone was asleep. Despite efforts to rescue the family members, two of Maru's little daughters remained inside the burning rooms, unable to escape.

The tragic incident involved nine family members, including two wives and children. Seven of them were fortunate to have either escaped on their own or with the assistance of rescuers. The devastating loss highlights the profound impact of the fire on Maru's family and underscores the need for further investigation into the cause of the fire.
