Lomé - In a momentous celebration on Saturday, October 21, 2023, Ecobank Group marked the tenth anniversary of Ecobank Day, a flagship social impact event. The premier pan-African banking organization unveiled a three-year initiative, "Transforming Africa Through Education," focusing on digital education to equip children and young people with essential skills for the future workforce.*

Jeremy Awori, CEO of Ecobank Group, emphasized the altruistic spirit of the 14,000 Ecobankers, highlighting how Ecobank Day reflects the commitment to improving communities over the past decade. This year's emphasis on digital education aligns with Ecobank's belief in the transformative power of digital technology for an inclusive future in Africa. The bank, on a digitalization journey for years, introduced training programs and infrastructure support for young people's foundational education in digital literacy.

Prior to Ecobank Day, a collaborative effort between the Global Partnership for Education, UN Women, and the Ecobank Foundation resulted in a well-attended webinar titled "Igniting Africa's Digital Future through the Power of Coding." With over a thousand participants, the webinar featured professionals and youth discussing the importance of providing all African children access to digital skills, particularly coding and programming, essential for future employment.*

Ecobank's affiliate network in 33 sub-Saharan African nations is actively promoting digital literacy awareness through various initiatives. These include establishing or upgrading IT labs, renovating educational facilities, conducting digital skills workshops, collaborating with educational institutions for infrastructure enhancement, and mentoring programs. Since 2013, Ecobank Day has contributed funds to diverse charitable causes, ranging from youth education and malaria prevention to promoting mental health and financial literacy.*
