IPOB Releases Details of N10m payment to Ifeanyi Ejiofor, dismisses pro bono claims

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a fresh clarification confirming the transfer of ₦10 million to its legal representative, Barrister 

Ifeanyi Ejiofor, as part of payments for legal and related services.

In a public briefing released on Friday, the Head of IPOB’s Finance Directorate, Madam Nnennaya Anya, disclosed that the payment was made on August 13, 2021, through the office manager linked to Ejiofor’s chambers.

According to the statement, the funds were transferred to an account associated with Miss Chinwe Umeche, who serves as the office manager to the lawyer. The account is held with United Bank for Africa (UBA).

Madam Anya explained that the transaction formed part of operational support approved by IPOB’s detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Details of the Transaction

The briefing provided key details of the payment, including:

• Date of Transfer: August 13, 2021

• Amount Transferred: ₦10,000,000

• Recipient: Account linked to Chinwe Umeche (office manager to Ifeanyi Ejiofor)

• Bank: United Bank for Africa (UBA)

• Balance After Transaction: ₦7,010,200.38

The finance directorate noted that the transaction was supported by bank confirmation records dated the same day.

IPOB Insists Payment Was Authorized

Madam Anya stated that the disbursement was carried out strictly under the directive of Kanu and in accordance with internal procedures governing financial operations within the organization.

She added that Miss Umeche handled the receipt of the funds on behalf of Ejiofor’s chambers and could be contacted for verification if necessary.

More Documents to Be Released

The IPOB finance chief further revealed that additional proof relating to another payment will be made public next week to address what she described as “lingering questions or misinformation” surrounding the organization’s financial transactions.

She emphasized that the briefing was issued in the spirit of transparency and accountability in the management of IPOB funds.

The Indigenous People of Biafra maintained that the clarification was intended to remove any doubts about the transaction and reaffirm the group’s commitment to openness in its financial dealings.
