Igbo Spiritual Delegation Meets Nnamdi Kanu In Sokoto, Seeks National Dialogue

 

A delegation of prominent Igbo spiritual figures has met with detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, at the Sokoto Correctional Centre, reaffirming what it described as maternal and cultural solidarity.

The visit was led by Chief Mrs. Oliaku Chika Ibeneme, widely known as Nne Mmanwu Igbo Niine (Mother of All Igbo Masquerades) and a former Commissioner for Works and Housing in Anambra State. She represented Ndi Nne Mụọ Ala-Igbo nile, the collective body of titled spiritual mothers across Igboland.

In a statement released after the engagement, the delegation said it offered prayers and invoked ancestral blessings for Kanu, describing the outreach as part of its spiritual responsibility toward the Igbo nation. Symbolic gestures were also extended to demonstrate support.

The group maintained that its intervention reflects a broader commitment to justice, equity, and peaceful resolution of concerns surrounding Kanu’s continued detention.

The spiritual leaders disclosed that they intend to embark on consultations with traditional rulers, community elders, and spiritual authorities across Nigeria. According to them, the initiative is aimed at encouraging dialogue and mobilizing moral support toward securing Kanu’s unconditional release.

They urged Nigerians, particularly people from the South-East, to remain calm and united in lawful and peaceful advocacy while awaiting further developments in the ongoing legal process.

Kanu remains in custody as court proceedings continue, with his case drawing sustained attention from socio-cultural organizations and political stakeholders nationwide.
