IPOB Hails Georgia As Nnamdi Kanu Bags Prestigious Honorary Citizen Award In U.S

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has expressed profound appreciation to authorities in the State of Georgia, United States, following the conferment of an Honorary Citizen of Georgia Award on its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

In a statement issued on February 24, 2026, and signed by its spokesperson, Comrade Emma Powerful, the group specifically commended Gabe Okoye for what it described as his instrumental role in facilitating the prestigious recognition.

According to IPOB, the honorary citizenship represents a symbolic gesture of goodwill and acknowledgment of Kanu’s contributions to public discourse, cultural engagement, humanitarian advocacy, and global awareness.

The group noted that the designation reflects the State of Georgia’s recognition of Kanu as a “friend and distinguished guest” of the state.

IPOB further stated that historical records indicate that only a limited number of foreign nationals have received similar honorary recognition in the United States since 1963, with many conferred posthumously. It added that individuals reportedly recognized during their lifetime include Sir Winston Churchill and Mother Teresa, placing Kanu among what it described as “distinguished company.”

The group described the award as a meaningful milestone for Kanu and his supporters worldwide, emphasizing that such honors are typically reserved for individuals whose influence transcends national boundaries.

IPOB also extended its gratitude to the Office of the Secretary of State of Georgia, led by Brad Raffensperger, the Governor of Georgia, and the citizens of the state for what it termed a notable gesture of goodwill.

The statement concluded with renewed appreciation for the recognition, which the group said is deeply valued by Kanu and members of the Biafran movement globally.
